Abstract

Artificial intelligence as a method of academic support for university students, responds to the excessive use that students give to various automated tools that have been developed over time and are gaining greater strength such as ChatGPT. This tool has revolutionized the way in which higher education students approach their learning and academic development since they obtain guidelines and guides from various areas of knowledge, complementing the efficiency and effectiveness of the educational process. In addition, by studying the following topic, it is intended to characterize educational conditions, social challenges and the role that AI has in university education. Therefore, the study is qualitative, the data is collected through a structured interview carried out in Google Forms, which served to ensure that the information has a high degree of veracity, resulting in a discussion on the correct application of the platform. The conclusions indicate that the use of ChatGPT tends to be harmful if there is no prior guidance. The students from the Faculty of Education of the National University of Chimborazo in the city of Riobamba, Ecuador, establish that excessive use can cause a lack of academic rigor, so it should be complemented with traditional sources and supervision by educators.
