Abstract
This is a comprehensive study on the evaluation and optimization of the life cycle of desks at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Tsa'chila, in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador. The research was conducted considering the significant deterioration of school furniture, attributed to environmental factors and lack of proper maintenance, which affects ergonomics, comfort and academic performance of students. A descriptive and non-experimental methodology was used, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to assess the current state of the furniture and propose sustainable improvements. Surveys were conducted with teachers and students, complemented with an analysis of the life cycle of the desks. The results reveal that a high percentage of students experience physical discomfort due to the poor condition of the desks, which negatively impacts their well-being and concentration. The implementation of a semi-annual preventive maintenance program, the use of sustainable materials and the ergonomic redesign of the desks are proposed as key strategies to improve learning conditions and prolong the useful life of the furniture. This approach seeks to solve current problems, and also to align furniture management with long-term sustainability and efficiency goals.
