Abstract

In this mixed study, at a descriptive level, the impact of screen use on the development of the prefrontal cortex and the resulting problems in attention span, attributed to excess cortisol that makes concentration difficult, was addressed. To understand the causes or factors associated with this problem, theoretical and practical methods were used and as a consequence common behaviors in children and adolescents addicted to screens, speech delay, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, obsessive thoughts or social isolation were identified. The study evaluated several relevant aspects, such as screen use time according to different ages, the importance of the prefrontal cortex and its functions, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of technological devices. The need to raise awareness among parents to limit access to these devices was highlighted, thus allowing children to develop skills in a healthier and socially integrated way with their environment and the environment. The review of various research supports the recommendation to limit and supervise the time that children under 5 years of age spend in front of screens, since exceeding this limit can have negative consequences on their physical, emotional health, and cognitive development. The importance of promoting activities that encourage social interaction, physical movement, and creativity is emphasized during this crucial stage of child development.
