Abstract

The purpose of this investigation is to carry out an exhaustive analysis of the statistics related to traffic incidents that occurred in the urban environment of the La Concordia canton during the year 2022. The main objective of this study is to identify the points of greatest recurrence. of traffic accidents within the urban limits of the aforementioned canton. To achieve this goal, it was decided to use the methodology supported by the National Transit Agency for the identification of the so-called "critical points" and "black points" in terms of accidents. The investigation was carried out using statistical records of traffic incidents at the provincial, cantonal and urban area levels, which were obtained through official sources, including the official website of the National Traffic Agency and the collaboration of the Deputy Chief of Traffic of the La Concordia canton. To carry out the analysis, research techniques were used that included surveys, interviews and the collection of technical sheets. As a result of this investigation, it was found that during the year 2022, the province as a whole recorded a total of 1,036 traffic incidents. In the specific area of the canton, 186 road accidents were documented, of which all of these events took place in the urban area of the canton. Applying the methodology provided by the National Transit Agency, it was possible to identify the existence of 18 intersections within the urban perimeter of the canton with a significant history of traffic incidents. Of these points, 15 have been classified as "hotspots" in terms of accidents, while the remaining 3 have been designated as "black spots" for accidents, indicating a worrying concentration of traffic events in these specific areas.
