Evaluation of quality of life in cancer patients receiving care at the Samaritas Ec Foundation

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of cancer patients receiving care at the Samaritas Ec. Foundation during the first half of 2024 by identifying the factors influencing their well-being. A quantitative approach was adopted using a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive research design. The study population consisted of 21 cancer patients who completed the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire, which assesses four domains of quality of life: physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environment. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine participants' perceived quality of life across these domains. The findings revealed a moderate impairment in all dimensions evaluated. The physical domain recorded the lowest mean score (2.84/5), indicating greater limitations related to physical well-being. The psychological domain showed the highest mean score (3.22/5), followed by the environmental (2.96/5) and social relationships (2.95/5) domains; however, none of the domains reached a high level of quality of life. These findings highlight the need to strengthen comprehensive care through strategies focused on psychosocial support, the reinforcement of social support networks, and improved access to complementary healthcare services, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and quality of life of cancer patients.
