The Influence of Artificial Intelligence on English Language Learning Among Higher Education Students

Abstract

The objective of this research was to examine the impact of using artificial intelligence tools on English language learning among upper-level students at the Tsa’chila Higher Technological Institute. The study employed a quantitative, descriptive, and non-experimental approach with a cross-sectional perspective. It was supplemented by a review of the most recent scientific literature on artificial intelligence and education. To this end, a structured survey was administered to 71 students to determine which artificial intelligence tools they use most frequently, how often they use them, and their perceptions of how these tools contribute to the development of English language skills. The results showed that participants made extensive use of artificial intelligence tools, with ChatGPT and Duolingo being the most used. Furthermore, a positive view was expressed regarding their contribution to improving vocabulary, content comprehension, and English writing. However, critical and neutral views were also observed, particularly regarding the overall usefulness and motivational impact of these technologies. It is concluded that artificial intelligence is an additional resource capable of supporting English language learning, provided that its use is accompanied by pedagogical guidance and an ethical and responsible approach.
