Abstract

The present study focuses on the evaluation of the cognitive development of 4-year-old children in the "Kasama" Educational Unit, located in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, using a mixed approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. Using an observation sheet and interviews with the educator, data was collected on the children's academic performance and cognitive skills. The research methodology included direct observation in the classroom and detailed interviews with the educator. The observation sheet made it possible to systematically record behaviors and cognitive skills, while the interviews provided in-depth insight into the pedagogical strategies and cognitive development of the children. The results indicated that neuroeducational recreational resources are essential for cognitive development at this stage. These resources facilitate the learning of skills such as memory, attention, problem solving and creativity, while promoting a positive attitude towards learning. Analysis of the quantitative data showed that the majority of children are in the process of developing their cognitive skills, with specific areas requiring greater attention, such as everyday problem solving and coherent verbal expression. On the other hand, the qualitative data from the interviews highlighted the importance of the physical classroom environment, the appropriate use of technology, and the need for effective and personalized pedagogical strategies.
