Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of soil fertilization on the growth of nine Musaceae varieties in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, planted 10 months ago. The test consisted of 36 experimental units 100 m2. A Randomized Complete Block Design with a 9x2 factorial arrangement with two repetitions was used; nine varieties of musaceae were used (filipino, guineo, orito, purple, cavendish, maqueño, enano, 4 filos and hartón) and two chemical fertilizations [fertibanano (18-6-28-2) and yaramila complex (12-11-18 -3)]. In the results of the monthly increase of the evaluated variables, it was established that the purple banana variety reached the highest results in plant height with 47.46 cm and leaf area with 0.36. The highest emission of suckers was obtained with the Orito variety with 2.19 suckers per plant. The greatest increase in the monthly diameter of the pseudostem was obtained with the maqueño variety with 10.90 cm. The fertilizer (18-6-28-2) presented the best average number of suckers, pseudostem diameter and leaf area index; although it did not present statistical significance in the fertilizer factor.
