Identification of accident rates for the year 2022 in the rural parishes of the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Identificación de los índices de siniestralidad del año 2022 en las parroquias rurales de la provincia de Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the accident rates based on the statistics of traffic accidents that occurred during the year 2022 in the ten rural parishes of the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. It is important to highlight that this province is made up of two cantons, of which seven rural parishes are located in the Santo Domingo canton, and the remaining three in the La Concordia canton. The methodology used for this analysis was based on the calculation of accident rates defined by the World Health Organization. In addition, a mixed approach was used that combined bibliographic research with field data collection. According to the results obtained, it was found that during the year 2022, a total of 1,023 traffic accidents were recorded throughout the province. Of these, 98 accidents occurred in the ten rural parishes under study. In more detail, 70 accidents were reported in the parishes of Santo Domingo and 28 accidents in the parishes of La Concordia. It is worth mentioning that the total population of the ten rural parishes in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas amounts to 76,992 inhabitants. In the same period, 98 traffic accidents occurred in these areas. Consequently, it is determined that for every 50,000 inhabitants of rural parishes, an accident rate of 63.64 incidents is recorded.
