Analysis of traffic accident figures in the urban area of the El Carmen canton, year 2022. Análisis de las cifras de siniestro de tránsito en la zona urbana del cantón El Carmen, año 2022.

Abstract

The primary objective of this investigation is to identify the critical and black points of accidents that occurred during the year 2022, within the urban demarcation of the El Carme canton. With a view to carrying out this investigation, access was available to statistical records related to traffic incidents at the provincial and cantonal levels, and specifically in the urban area, obtained through the official source provided by the National Transit Agency, as well as well as the Deputy Head of Transit of the GADM El Carmen. To carry out this research, a methodology was implemented that included the application of surveys to residents of the area under study, as well as conducting interviews with officials who carry out their work in organizations related to road safety and transit, with the purpose of discerning their perception regarding this problem. The results of this investigation indicate that during the year 2022, the province of Manabí experienced a total of 1,709 traffic incidents. At the level of the El Carmen canton, 119 road accidents were recorded, of which 86 occurred in urban areas and 33 in rural areas. Based on the analysis carried out, it was established that in the urban area of the El Carmen canton, there are a total of 20 locations or points on the road network that have a higher incidence of traffic accidents, of which 15 have been categorized as critical accident points, while 5 have been classified as accident black points. Based on the results obtained, a recommendation is made to the canton authorities, which urges them to undertake training campaigns aimed at road safety education for residents of the area, with the purpose of improving traffic awareness and behavior.
