Abstract

The present research project focused on the determination of the contributing factors to traffic accidents at the intersection that covers Vía Quinindé and Brisas del Colorado, sector 1. The relevance of this research lies in the growing global interest in the topic of road accidents, particularly due to the significant increase in vehicles in circulation on the streets, highways and highways of the modern road network. A study carried out in 2022 that focused on the identification of patterns of recurrence of traffic accidents in the urban area of the Santo Domingo Canton revealed that the intersection that covers Vía Quinindé and Brisas del Colorado, sector 1, is one of the areas where road accidents frequently occur. Therefore, in this research, information was collected through direct observation related to the characteristics of road infrastructure, operational aspects, road user behaviors, and population perceptions. It is worth mentioning that the methodology adopted for this study is based on the guidelines of the National Transit Agency, which establishes that the analysis area must cover a radius of 100 meters around the recurrence points of road accidents generated on the road network within of the urban environment.
