Abstract
This study was conducted at the agricultural company Rancho La Esperanza, located in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, with the aim of identifying postural risks and proposing ergonomic adjustments to the work tools used by the operators. It focused particularly on activities related to the manual loading and transportation of bananas, which are considered highly physically demanding. For the evaluation, the RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) and REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) methodologies were applied, along with worker surveys, providing a detailed overview of the work environment. The results revealed alarming levels of ergonomic risk (RULA: 7; REBA: between 10 and 11), associated with forced postures, manual handling of heavy loads without mechanical support, and the use of tools with inappropriate size, shape, and weight. The lack of ergonomic training and limited use of personal protective equipment further worsened these conditions. In response to this situation, proposals were made for the ergonomic resizing of tools and low-cost organizational improvements, feasible in rural contexts. The conclusions emphasize that simple interventions, when based on appropriate technical criteria, can lead to substantial improvements in both workers' occupational health and the efficiency of the production process.
