Abstract

The achilles tendon is the most frequent tendon rupture, even though this is the most resistant tendon in the human body. Its incidence is modulated by the action of risk factors that could lead to a relevant disability in the patient who presents this lesion. This descriptive, observational, retrospective case report study measures the efficacy of the post-surgical protocol in a sample of 48 patients with acute achilles tendon rupture from Hospital San Francisco de Quito - IESS. External determinants that somehow modified the evolution time were considered, such as delays or missed control appointments.
It was observed that the mini-open technique is safer compared to the traditional achilles tendon repair technique, with an effectiveness rate of 100% in all cases analyzed and no post-surgical complications were observed. Recovery time with this technique also proved to be shorter
