Abstract
This research project was conceived with the purpose of identifying accident rates in the area of traffic routes, in order to provide an exhaustive analysis of said traffic incident rates. These incidents have acquired a dimension of concern at a global level, ranking among the ten main causes of annual mortality in various regions, which makes it a public health challenge of global reach. In the Ecuadorian context, the problem of road accidents is not overlooked, which significantly affects all provinces and cantons of the country. This thesis undertook a rigorous statistical analysis to investigate the predominant causes of these road incidents, considering variables such as the vehicle fleet, population density and the territorial extension of the different cantons. This methodology allowed the formulation of proposals and solutions aimed at mitigating the negative consequences of this social problem, which also has an economic impact on the nation. In addition, a study of growth rates was carried out based on information provided by the authorities in charge of traffic regulation in the different provinces. Obtaining relevant quantitative data was based on the application of the observation technique, allowing the collection of information related to traffic incidents through official sources. These data were used to carry out comparative analyzes between different cantons, including Santo Domingo. This methodological approach allowed a critical and exhaustive analysis of the accident figures, thus laying the foundations for proposals and solutions aimed at improving road safety in Ecuador.
